BROOKE MARIE GOES WEST TO WIN G2 MONROVIA S.

Castleton owned Brooke Marie collared pacesetting Alice Marble at midstretch to win the Grade 2  $200,500 Monrovia Stakes Saturday at Santa Anita.

Trainer Eddie Kenneally commented “She was a listed stakes winner, but we really wanted to get graded stakes action for her. There aren’t many graded stakes for fillies and mares sprinting on the turf so we thought we had to try this one in California. Winning this is huge for her breeding value.”

The Breeders’ Cup is at Keeneland this year, and Kenneally said Brooke Marie will remain in training through the year, “eyeing the Breeders’ Cup in the fall.”

Brooke Marie now has won six times in 15 starts with career earnings of $408,730. She also won the Pan Zareta Stakes at Fair Grounds last December, beating course specialist Elle Z.
