Neither a yielding Saratoga turf course nor a stumbling start could prevent Castleton and Gavin Tierney’s homebred, Chi Town Lady, from keeping her record unblemished and becoming a first-time stakes winner in only her second start. The promising juvenile filly by Verrazano overcame early adversity and rallied from last to first to post a 1 3/4 length victory in the $120,000 Bolton Landing Stakes.
Chi Town Lady entered the Bolton Landing off an impressive debut win at Keeneland on April 11. Her trainer, Wesley Ward, had hoped to take the filly to Royal Ascot, but those plans were altered and she was kept stateside. Her regular rider, John Velazquez called Chi Town Lady’s improvement from her first start “incredible”.
